afternoon. Quickly after leaving Warrentown, VA I took off on a county
road hoping to rejoin my original route eventually. I found myself in
Marshall, VA which had been renamed in honor of Chief Justice John
Marshall, who was probably the most instrumental person in shaping our
justice system during the early stages of our nation. Marshall's
family settled here and he was born in this community that has not
grown much since those times.
Down the county road I passed through small communities tucked into
the hills of Virginia when all of a sudden I see what looks like a
military facility. High barbed wire fences surrounded the complex
that seemed at least 300 acres in size. Security cameras, guard
stations, and a lot of white government vehichles with tinted windows
were good indicators of the site's importance. A simple discrete sign
indicated that it was an emergency operations center, and being this
close to DC it is very likely um... Sensitive. The funny things you
stumble upon with unplanned detours.
